How I can help

01Therapy for adultsAnxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, identity, and the patterns that keep repeating no matter how clearly you see them. Weekly individual work, in English or Spanish.

45 minutes, weekly

Virtual sessions anywhere in New York State. Most work is open-ended and depth-oriented; shorter focused work when that is what is called for.

What the first month looks like

A free 15-minute consultation, then two or three sessions of history and orientation before we settle into a rhythm and a shared formulation.

Relational and psychodynamic core

Integrated with CBT, DBT, and trauma-focused methods. We will collaborate to determine the most appropriate path forward.

02Children, teens & familiesLearning differences, ADHD, school refusal, anxiety, identity exploration, and the exhaustion of a family that has tried everything. I've been on both sides of this — as a psychologist and as a classroom teacher.

Ages 5 through 17

The young person and the parents are both in the treatment. A child's therapy that leaves out the family is working with one hand tied.

School coordination

I write to schools, join meetings, and translate testing into accommodations people will actually implement.

Both problems at once

The practical machinery — planning, initiating, finishing — and what years of struggle have done to a kid's sense of themselves.

03ADHD screening & consultationDiagnostic screening for ADHD, second opinions, treatment planning, and coordination with prescribers, schools, and existing care teams.

Testing that answers a question

ADHD, learning disabilities, and diagnostic clarification — useful when you need documentation or a diagnosis has not been sitting right.

Asylum affidavits

Psychological evaluations and written affidavits supporting asylum applications, in English or Spanish.

Medication coordination

I hold a Master's in Clinical Psychopharmacology. I do not prescribe in New York, but I work directly with your prescriber.

04Clinical supervision & consultationIndividual and group supervision for trainees and early-career clinicians, case consultation, and second opinions for practices. I direct a psychotherapy training program in New York and supervise across disciplines.

Who I supervise

Mental health counselors, psychologists in training, and social workers. I direct the psychotherapy training program at Dwellness, and I have supervised doctoral practicum students at the university level.

Relational and multicultural focus

Formulation that holds the client's social context and identities alongside the dynamics in the room — including what is happening between you and the person you are treating.

Consultation as well as supervision

Single-case consultation, diagnostic second opinions, and ongoing group consultation for practices. Supervision toward licensure hours by arrangement.

About

Difference has defined my life for as long as I can remember.

I grew up in Grand Isle, Louisiana, and learned early that being different was a bad thing to be. Most of what I understand about shame I learned first as its subject — and that question, what difference does to a person and what helps, is what I have been studying ever since.

Research

My program of research directly informs my clinical work.

Eight peer-reviewed papers on what interpersonal and structural stigma does to mental health, what protects people from it, and how executive functioning is built in children with complex learning profiles.

Starting is the hard part.

The consultation is fifteen minutes, it is free, and there is no obligation on either side. If I am not the right person, I will tell you — and I will point you toward someone who is.
